The Risk Management application in Serenity enables organizations to assess and quantify hazards using configurable scales for Severity, Likelihood, and optionally, Exposure. These scales are essential for determining risk scores and applying risk levels that help prioritize corrective or preventive action.
What Are Response Types?
Response types are pre-defined value sets that help quantify risk in a consistent way across your organization. These values are used in risk formulas that compute:
Risk Score (e.g., Severity × Likelihood)
Risk Level (e.g., High, Medium, Low)
Out-of-Box Response Types
Serenity provides a set of standard response types out of the box. The current default options include:
Severity
Insignificant, Minor, Moderate, Major, Catastrophic
Insignificant, Minor, Critical, Severe
Exposure (optional)
Infrequent, Frequent
Likelihood
Unlikely, Likely
Rare, Unlikely, Possible, Likely, Almost Certain
Risk Level
Very High, High, Medium, Low
High, Medium, Low
These options provide a flexible starting point for organizations new to risk quantification.
🔧 Customizing Response Types
If your organization has a unique risk assessment methodology or requires specific terminology:
Our Serenity Support Team can assist you in modifying the available choices for severity, likelihood, exposure, and risk levels.
These changes will reflect throughout the risk management workflow, impacting how risks are calculated and displayed.
🚧 Coming Soon: Self-Management for Risk Admins
Currently, editing these response types requires support assistance. However, a Risk Management Settings page is coming soon for users with the risk admin role. This feature will allow administrators to:
Add, remove, or reorder response options
Define scoring values for each response
Embed additional help text to describe the criteria for each response option
This improvement will empower safety leaders and admins to better align the system with evolving risk frameworks and internal standards.
