To preserve historical inspection data while preventing further use, Serenity recommends archiving inspection templates instead of deleting them. Archiving ensures all completed inspection records remain intact for future reference, reporting, or auditing purposes.
Follow the steps below to safely archive an inspection template:
Steps to Archive a Template
Navigate to the Templates tab
From the Inspections module, open the Templates tab to view all available templates in your environment.Open the template to archive
Click the name of the inspection template you want to archive. This opens the template in edit mode.Deactivate the template
In the template header, uncheck the “Active” box.
This disables the template and prevents anyone from launching new inspections based on it.
✅ Existing inspection tasks will remain unaffected.(Recommended) Restrict access to archived data
Under the Access Management section:
Set Available to = Private (template owner only)
Set Tasks available to = Private (task creators & assignees only)
⚠️ Restricting access this way will also remove visibility of any inspection tasks created from the template unless you're the template owner or assigned to a task.
Save your changes
Click Save to apply your changes. The template is now archived and hidden from general use.
Archiving templates is a best practice for maintaining system cleanliness and data integrity—especially in environments with long-running or high-frequency inspections.
